How to Wear & Care for Your Rudraksha — Do's, Don'ts and the Weekly Ritual
The correct way to energise, wear and maintain your Rudraksha — including the weekly oil ritual, mantras and common mistakes that weaken the bead.
A Rudraksha is a living seed. Treat it as sacred and it will serve you for a lifetime; treat it casually and its vibration fades. This is the exact ritual we teach every customer.
Day 1 — Energising (Pran-Pratishtha)
Every Mauhurtika bead is already energised by our resident acharya, but you can further personalise the bead by chanting 'Om Namah Shivaya' 108 times on the morning of Monday, holding the bead in your right hand.
Wearing
Wear after a morning bath, ideally against bare skin. The bead can touch the heart-centre (mala/pendant) or wrist (bracelet). Silver or gold capping is auspicious and prevents wear.
The Weekly Oil Ritual
Once a week (Monday morning is best), clean the bead gently with a soft dry cloth. Apply a single drop of pure sesame or mustard oil, massage lightly and wipe off the excess. This keeps the bead hydrated, prevents cracking and preserves the natural shine.
Don't
Don't wear during sleep, bathing, sexual intimacy or in cremation grounds. Don't let others touch or wear your personal bead. Don't use chemical soaps, perfumes or alcohol on the bead.
Cracked or Damaged Beads
A cracked Rudraksha loses its power and should be respectfully immersed in a river or a peepal tree's roots — not thrown away. Contact us for a discounted replacement.
Follow this simple ritual and your Rudraksha will remain a powerful, living companion for decades.
